Santa Clara, California

Who We Are:

Malwarebytes is the next-gen cybersecurity company that millions worldwide trust. Malwarebytes proactively protects people and businesses against dangerous threats such as malware, ransomware, and exploits that escape detection by traditional antivirus solutions. The company’s flagship product combines advanced heuristic threat detection with signatureless technologies to detect and stop a cyberattack before damage occurs. More than 10,000 businesses worldwide use, trust, and recommend Malwarebytes. Founded in 2008, the company is headquartered in California, with offices in Europe and Asia, and a global team of threat researchers and security experts

We’ve created a fantastic culture that our employees love and were recently named in the top 10 of Fortune Magazine’s “Great Place to Work” list.   We’re growing fast and are looking for some great people to join us.

Who We Need:

We are looking for a Content Writer to join our threat content team and make our award-winning blog, Malwarebytes Labs, even more winning. You’ll enrich our site with your cool prose, dazzle readers with astonishing data, and tackle difficult technical concepts head on, translating them into not just readable but captivating content. You’ll report to the Head of Threat Content, who will not just serve as your boss but also your editor.

Your responsibilities include conducting thorough research on security-related topics, generating ideas for new content, and producing well-researched, well-edited blogs for weekly publication. Ideally, you’ve done all this before either as a published security researcher or a reporter/writer for an online news publication. Bonus points for having covered tech or cybersecurity in the past. Feel free to share samples of your work or a portfolio of your published articles along with your application.

Ultimately, as Content Writer, your job will be to inform and educate audiences about cybersecurity, helping readers to protect themselves online through increased awareness. You would join a group of passionate writers and researchers who care just as much about the Oxford comma as they do the latest data breach. And you’d put your writing chops to the test, as we strive for originality, accuracy, and above all, integrity, in all that we produce.

What You’ll Do:

  • Research product agnostic, security-related topics (reviewing articles, reports, and studies, conducting interviews with subject matter experts and other sources, examining product telemetry and other data)
  • Pitch, write, and edit 1–2 quality blogs per week
  • Write longform narrative/feature stories as requested/pitched
  • Write and edit quarterly reports on malware distribution trends, as well as a yearly “State of Malware” report (along with a team of other writers and researchers)
  • Provide commentary to journalists on hot security topics
  • Provide updates to the glossary and Threat Center detection profiles as necessary
  • Guest blog/provide exclusive content to other publications as arranged by global communications team
  • Submit qualifying blog posts for PR consideration/be available for interviews with journalists if a story receives press
  • Use SEO best practices when considering topics, keywords, and headlines
  • Follow editorial style guide and ensure all-around consistency in voice, tone, images selected, and formatting

Skills You’ll Need To Have:

  • Proven work experience as a Content Writer, Reporter, or Security Researcher, with a solid portfolio of published articles
  • Excellent writing and editing skills; knows Associated Press and Chicago Manual of Style
  • Experience conducting research using multiple sources, including interviewing subject matter experts (SMEs)
  • Familiarity with cybersecurity and technology
  • Hands-on experience using Content Management Systems (especially WordPress)
  • Ability to meet deadlines and turn over high-quality content in a fast-paced environment
  • BS/BA in English, Journalism, or a related field (computer science would also qualify)
  • Creativity and ability to self-motivate; Content Writers usually pitch their own story topics on a weekly basis and work at their own pace to complete deadlines

What We Offer:

  • An opportunity to do something great for yourself and the world
  • A great work environment that supports growth and development
  • Competitive compensation and benefit packages
  • 401(k) matching program
  • Open time off policy
  • Stocked kitchen with healthy (and some unhealthy) drinks, snacks, fruit and lunch options
  • A company who enjoys having fun; holiday and summer parties, experienced a private Star Wars pre-opening day viewing and lots of other great stuff
